Radio One Big Weekend Glasgow (or the time I fell madly in love with Paolo...)

I love living in Glasgow. There is always something to do or something to see (even if that something is a couple of junkies fighting on Sauchiehall Street…) This weekend was no exception as Radio One came to town and set up camp down Glasgow Green for their annual Big Weekend. I was lucky enough to bag tickets for the whole weekend and thought I would share my highlights.

1) This might sound really uncool and probably a bit pretentious but the atmosphere was absolutely incredible. It's no secret that Glaswegians love a party but oh my days we were up for it this weekend. Everyone was dancing and having a great time and being pretty nice to each other! Side note -  I also enjoyed the many ways people sneaked a tipple into the arena. I personally went for some really nice Capri Sun/Rum boobs :D

2) Lily Allen was fab. I used to binge listen to Lily when I was about 16 and think she was the height of cool (although I was never a fan of the trainers/dress combo…). But she kind of dropped off my musical radar for a while. In fact I almost never went to see her on Saturday. So glad I made the right decision and went to her gig as she was absolutely fantastic and put on a proper show. There was glamorous costumes, clever visuals and her vocals were sweet and beautiful. Plus her lyrics are quite dirty baha! What's not to love?

3) The best party was definitely at Calvin Harris. Sometimes he said some slightly cringe stuff but he played a really good set with just the right mix of techno and chart for the crowd. I jumped about like an absolute animal and had a total blast! Me and my friends were close enough to the stage to get drowned in this confetti explosion as well >>>

4) Katy Perry was an absolute dream! I have been a huge fan ever since I watched Part of Me  on Netflix (which I highly recommend by the way) and she did not let me down. She did not scrimp on performance because it was a festival one bit, her show was like a full blown, arena concert. All her dancers and wacky costumes came with her and she belted out all the hits. I was a bit gutted she never played 'Last Friday Night' as that is my favourite but she honestly was fab! And I don't think there could have been anyone better to close the weekend. I will confess I did shed a slight tear, but that was maybe more to do with exhaustion than raw emotion…Maybe.

5) My absolute top highlight of the whole weekend was Mr Paolo NutiniOh my god, why don't all men from around here look like that? He is the absolute epitome of everything I find attractive in a man. His voice was like chocolate (which since I can't eat dairy was a bit bittersweet). I was honestly lost in the music, he is so talented and absolutely fantastic live! I felt like every Justin Bieber fan girl must feel - just absolutely in love! He closed his set with Candy which is my favourite song of his, and one of my five greatest songs of all time and it was just... absolutey beautiful.

And with that song, I will leave you. Otherwise this may swiftly become a soppy blog!
